Self-deception can be a serious problem when it comes to your health. Deception is such a despicable trait that you would rather deny it than face it honestly. Unfortunately the more you deny those dark tendencies, the more you bury them in your shadow self.

You will become delusional and fantasies constantly. This will reduce the mental and emotional clarity you have which leads to many problems. According to Psychology Today and Lonerwolf, here are 5 signs you’re not being honest with yourself.

1. Feeling inauthentic

You can’t shake the feeling that you are a fake. Inside you, there is a feeling that you have lost touch with your true self. You go places you don’t want to go, make friends with people you don’t like, buy things you can’t afford or laugh when jokes aren’t funny. You don’t know what makes you happy or what you really want in life.

2. Lack of accountability

People who have and follow through on commitments will publicize their commitments and plans. Those who live authentically in a community of supportive people who know when they are struggling and need help. One of the best things you can do to keep yourself going is to join others on the same journey.

3. Don’t like to listen to other people’s advice

When someone close to you gives you a new perspective on your situation, you immediately shut down. Feelings like sadness, anger, and annoyance are triggered inside you. Why does this happen? When you lie to yourself, you tend to only support others who convince you instead of challenging you.

4. Not having a plan

You have a plan. Losing weight, getting fit, writing a book, or starting a business doesn’t just happen. You need to have a plan. It’s even better if you have a coach to guide you to realize your plan.

5. Feeling like you’re running away from something

When you feel like you’re trying to run away from something. It might be a thought, a realization, a bitter truth. It feels like something is lurking in the darkness and you don’t like it. You feel like running away but you don’t know why.
